After reading some of Bill Camilleri's excellent poetry,
I decided to try my hand at imagery. Looking up at the
posters in my office that depict places of natural beauty
provided a beginning for this one. My usual elemental
theme provided the rest.
Bonfires crackle in orange and red,
furnaces warm us all snug in our beds,
volanoes bursting forth lava so bright,
pumpkins with candles to light up the night.
Hills of earth flowing with tall waving grass,
black highways laid between buildings they pass,
fields of wheat harvested stacked up in mounds,
feel the deep forest where much life abounds.
Wind blows and rattles a loose window pane,
eagle soars high above mountain and plain,
breeze wafts and cools off a hot summer day,
skydivers falling from high as they play.
Pools of still water in cool shade of green,
oceans wide flowing to rhythms unseen,
waves murmur, lapping a rocky beach shore,
blind rivers in dark caves quietly roar.
Element images given to me,
blending together as reality.
Such a collection of senses' delights,
taking us higher than all other heights.
